The Queensland Department of Education International is committed to providing inclusive, equitable, and exceptional education programs for Queensland state school students and is thrilled to offer this exciting new opportunity to Queensland students.

The inaugural 2023 Queensland Global Youth Summit will inspire Queensland young people to navigate and respond positively to the rapidly changing and diverse world we live in. The summit aims to provide students with opportunities to explore different elements of global competence and enhance students' essential, analytical, and creative thinking skills, leadership skills, intercultural understanding, self-awareness, and cultural understanding to facilitate meaningful global connections.

In Semester 2, 2023, participating students will explore ways to enhance their global competence, agency, global-mindedness and networks. The 2023 pilot of this program will connect students across schools in Brisbane and Cairns through a series of synchronous online workshops and asynchronous learning activities through Term 3 and Term 4, culminating in an in-person all-day Summit on October 17th.

This valuable learning opportunity is available to students in Brisbane and Cairns schools in Year 8 to 10. Future iterations will be open to students across the State.

The Summit and associated workshops will strengthen students’ knowledge and understanding of global competence, perspectives, diversity, the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, effective communication, collaboration, and presentation skills. Through the program students will consider how they can ‘think globally, act locally’, developing a range of actions to make their local school communities more inclusive and equitable. Students will showcase their actions to make communities more equitable at the final Summit in October.
