About the program
The Queensland Future School Leaders Program aims to encourage students who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and have the ambition to be future leaders collaborate online with similarly aged students from across the globe to address school-based challenges and develop their leadership skills. Students will connect with peers, hear from fellow young leaders and explore strategies for understanding and addressing school-based challenges.
Students will explore diverse leadership strengths and develop understanding of their own strengths. The program focuses on building global competence by enhancing a range of capabilities including critical and creative thinking, empathy, communication and intercultural understanding.
Program structure
The program is delivered as 4 three-hour sessions over a six-week period in Term 4. Each session will connect students in Queensland with students from selected nations to discuss topics and collaborate on tasks within breakout rooms. The programs will target the skills, knowledge, values and attitudes needed to be effective school leaders and global citizens. Students will develop their own school-based initiative to address a challenge they have found in their school community.
A ‘Taking Action Tool Kit’ will support students to define the problem, understand the root causes, generate possible solutions, select a solution and create a prototype to roll out in their school. Supporting learning materials will give students tips and tools they can use to evaluate their idea, fine tune it and implement it in their community.
