The ASEAN-Australia BRIDGE Program is an initiative of the ASEAN-Australia Centre, implemented by Asialink Education (formerly the Asia Education Foundation) at the University of Melbourne.

The ASEAN-Australia BRIDGE Program 2024-2026 aims to facilitate people to people connections between educators and students across Australia and ASEAN member states (excluding Indonesia and Myanmar). By strengthening engagement between educators and students across regions, this program is contributing towards nurturing a more connected future between Australia and ASEAN.

During July and August 2025, 19 Southeast Asian Educators visited their partnership schools for a weeklong immersive professional learning experience. Their insights and takeaways are a testament to the positive impact of global education connections.

Two educators reflect diversifying their perspectives both professionally and personally through the program.

“My experience in the partner school visit in Australia was truly enriching. It gave me a deeper understanding of how education is delivered in a different context— in which they emphasize holistic support, student wellbeing, inclusivity, and hands-on experience. I had the chance to observe classes, witness teaching practices, explore learning resources, join local excursions, engage in staff activities, collaborate with my Australian partner, and even share Filipino culture with the students and staff. Beyond academics, it was also a meaningful cultural exchange that broadened my perspective as an educator. I feel inspired and grateful for the opportunity. I truly hope that more Filipino teachers will have the chance to experience such a powerful and eye-opening professional journey. Thank you so much, Asialink Education and to all the generous and wonderful people behind the BRIDGE Program” - Filipino Educator

“The visit has shown me how meaningful partnerships can inspire new teaching approaches, broaden students’ worldviews, and strengthen professional growth. It has also reminded me that education goes beyond the classroom.” - Malaysian Educator

The program aimed to facilitate a learning experience for educators as well, an educator reflects on the inclusivity of Australian schools.

“I learned how student-centered the Australian education system is. Students are empowered to have a voice in their learning and are encouraged to think critically about issues that affect their lives. I also observed how much importance is given to well-being, diversity, and inclusivity in schools, which showed me how these values can be embedded in everyday practice” - Laos Educator

The program had a profound impact on both educators and students reinforcing the initial aim of contributing meaningful programs to the region.

“If I had to describe the experience of a school trip to Australia in one word, it would be "meaningful." This experience provided in-depth insight into a different education system, a new culture, and a new way of life. Interactions with Australian students and teachers, as well as exploration of the school and community environment, left a lasting impression and enriched my perspective.” - Timor-Leste Educator

Upon completion of the school visit, ASEAN participants are very confident in maintaining the school partnership program beyond the 18-month commitment, a crucial step towards ensuring the sustainability of the ASEAN-BRIDGE Program.

The ASEAN-Australia Bridge Program is an innovative initiative that contributed to building a global community through virtual workshops and reciprocal visits, committed to improving the wellbeing, learning experiences and outcomes of students in ASEAN and Australia.
