AEF Executive Director Hamish Curry has announced the appointment of Ms Jennifer Star OAM as the new Manager of International Education Partnerships.
“We are delighted to welcome Ms Star to this leading role with Asia Education Foundation and the wider team at Asialink at The University of Melbourne. "Jen is an education professional and pioneer, specialising in international education, teacher professional learning and Asia literacy" said Mr Curry.
“Jen is an outstanding young leader, bringing a wealth of experience from both her international education and NFP business backgrounds”.
A life-long learner, Jen has an extensive history working within Australia and the Asia-Pacific. In her education career, Jen has held senior roles as Founding Director at Tara.Ed an NGO promoting education in rural and regional India, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and the inaugural Manager of Professional Learning at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) where she worked to build the professional learning vertical and lead the organisation's teacher professional learning programmes in India and South Asia. In her most recent role as a Research Fellow, ACER, Jennifer worked to produce evidence-based research and services around teacher professional learning and school improvement.
Awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2019 for her service to education, Jen has been the recipient of a series of accolades including, Emerging Leader in the Not-for-Profit Sector at the Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards (2017), IABC Young Community Achiever Award (2017), Young Australian of the Year (2012), and was named as one of Australia's 100 Women of Influence (2016).
“This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for AEF as we expand on our remit to design even better intercultural experiences, resources and networks to support Australian educators and young people to engage with over 20 countries across the Asia-Pacific” Mr Curry said. Commenting on the appointment, Ms Star said "I’m so very excited to be taking on this role to empower, support and connect teachers across the region to educate a generation of globally-ready young learners who will go on to shape our world through an intercultural lens.”
Jen holds a Bachelor of Arts (Ancient History) with First Class Honours from Macquarie University, Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary History, Society & Culture) from University of New England, a Master of International and Comparative Education from Oxford University and is currently completing a PhD investigating Asia Literacy and pre-service teacher education at Deakin University.
Ms Star will commence in the role in late April 2021.
