With March the UN ‘gender equity awareness’ month, Asia Education Foundation (AEF) and the Australia India Institute, Delhi (Aii Delhi) are pleased to announce the second virtual event as part of the Equity in Education: Shared Perspectives between India and Australia series on Gender.

In 2015 the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a commitment to gender equality featuring prominently in that vision. While governments have made pledges and legally binding commitments to fulfil women’s human rights, gender disparity in education and gender discrimination in education are complex realities that require gender-responsive policies and accountability processes.

This webinar will explore gender equity in education from Australian and Indian perspectives, through the prism of policy and research, education providers and recent graduates in entrepreneurship. Panellists will explore how school leaders are shaping programs for gender equity in schools, and how role models and provider programs impact a student’s perspective and future opportunities.

This will be an informative discussion across Australia and India, bringing greater awareness and understanding to equity in education.

Education panellists:

Dr Mary Leahy – Senior Lecturer, Continuing, Vocational and Educational Policy – Research Hub at Melbourne Graduate School of Education;

Christopher Buswell – STEM Leader, Mountain Creek High School;

Damien Aldridge – Education Director, STEM Punks.

Industry panellists to be announced shortly.

Moderators:

Tanya Spisbah – Director, Australia India Institute, Delhi;

Hamish Curry – Executive Director, Asia Education Foundation at Asialink, The University of Melbourne.
