Online seminar

  • BUSINESS

Australian businesses and businesses around the region have been disrupted due to the global pandemic COVID-19. Our Asia Market Update Series provides an opportunity for the Australian business community to gain expert insights on country specific trends, issues and potential opportunities for engaging with Asia.

Hear from business experts about how you can stay informed and up-to-date on the changing business landscape in your quest to engage with Asia.

Our next seminar will focus on:

Japan

Australia and Japan remain close allies, with the recent virtual summit by Prime Ministers Morrison and Abe reaffirming the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship.

The Japanese and Australian economies have both been significantly impacted by COVID-19.  As businesses in both countries look to identify new sources of growth, the bilateral relationship will become even more relevant. Japan is Australia’s second largest trading partner and Japanese companies have a long history of investing in Australia to secure supply chain components, know-how, and sales networks. Australian companies have had far more limited investments in Japan with very few Australian companies present on-the-ground in Japan. Is this a missed opportunity for Australian companies?

This seminar will present expert insights on the following key questions:

  • What are the impacts of the pandemic on the Japanese economy?
  • Which sectors in Australia are currently attractive to Japanese companies? What are the latest merger and acquisition (M&A) trends emerging involving Japanese companies globally, including in Australia?
  • How are those Australian companies that are present in Japan innovating and succeeding? Why are so few Australian companies in Japan? What can Australian companies learn from other non-Australian multinational companies succeeding in Japan?
