Instrument Builders Project
The third iteration of the Instrument Builders Project (IBP) will take place in Melbourne at the NGV Studio 1- 23 November 2014.
IBP is an ongoing collaboration between Australian and Indonesian artists and musicians, in which the artists conceptualise, build, perform and exhibit new works together over the course of a shared residency. The IBP centres on an evolving ‘work space’, where elements of studio and gallery are combined and open to the public throughout the duration of the project, with public programs (concerts, exhibitions, workshops and talks) along with punctuating periods of experimental ‘free time’.
The works created through the IBP span traditional craft-based and avant-garde forms and practises including experimental musical instruments, sound sculptures, installation, conceptual and instructional works, and live art.
The IBP both responds to and seeks to support the further development of collaborative work between Indonesian and Australian artists.
More information can be found at the project website.

Broached Retreat
Broached Commissions and Asialink Arts present Broached Retreat, the first design show to be commissioned for exhibition at the prestigious Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art (UCCA), Beijing.
Curated by Australian based design studio Broached Commissions, Broached Retreat brings together a group of highly acclaimed international designers from Melbourne, Tokyo, Beijing and London.
The UCCA exhibition extends Broached Commissions unique practice of inviting international designers to collaborate on discussions surrounding the history of design, and research into concerns such as colonialism and globalization. Broached Retreat explores Australia's unique position as a mediator between European cultural traditions and a longstanding intellectual engagement with its East and Southeast Asian neighbours.
Broached Retreat takes the studio's first two highly successful collections, Broached Colonial & Broached East, and places them in a new context- a pavilion made from paper and stone.

Vertigo
Vertigo, an exhibition curated by Claire Anna Watson, presents works by ten Australian contemporary artists: Boe-lin Bastian, Cate Consandine, Simon Finn, Justine Khamara, Bonnie Lane, Kristin McIver, Kiron Robinson, Kate Shaw, Tania Smith, and Alice Wormald.
The artists interrogate contemporary life, exploring the fracture, chaos and dislocation that arises in the human condition and in a world which is imbued with flux and change. The experience of dizziness and a loss of perspective are explored within a world that is gripped by an acceleration of time and pace.
Presenting sculptural works, collage, drawing and video, the artists disrupt the ordinariness that can pervade life, building new narratives of human experience. By conveying feelings of anxiety and humour, or by using absurd gestures, the artists in Vertigo attempt to make sense of the world around them, with dizzying effects.
