Taipei – Fremantle

2019 will mark Asialink's tenth year of facilitating a reciprocal residency between Dept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation, and an Australian host organisation, the Fremantle Arts Centre. For 2019 Asialink Arts anticipate for an exchange to occur at different times in the year, to enable the Australian and Taiwanese artist to meet each other in-country and introduce one another to networks, settings and opportunities.

Successful applicants will be awarded a $9,000 Asialink grant towards their airfare, daily living expenses and materials. Up to $3,000 in-kind support will be offered by Dept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation in the form of accommodation, hosting, studio space and exhibition/project costs.

Dept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation - Taipei

TAVDept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation plays an important role in the dialogue, networking and presentation of artwork from Taiwan to the international art world. It comprises two sites; Taipei Artist Village (TAV) and Treasure Hill Artist Village (THAV). Located in the centre of Taipei, TAV has 13 residential apartments and studios for international artists and a mission to promote contemporary and avant-garde practices across a range of art forms. THAV is a historic architectural community. The unique location of Treasure Hill, with its narrow alleys and stairways traversing the hillside, gives THAV a European rural village feel. Applicants can apply for either TAV or THAV, and should specify this on their application form. The artist will participate in the organisation's Open Studio Program.

Fees As this is a reciprocal residency, the successful resident receives in-kind accommodation, studio and support. Asialink will award the resident $9,000 for three months. Laundry, internet, landline telephone and appliances in the studio are offered without charge
Partners/ families permitted? Yes. Please note partners and children will be charged NT 600 per night at the Taipei Artist Village, and NT 800 per week at the Treasure Hill Artist Village

Fremantle Arts Centre - Western Australia

Taipei residency imageFremantle Arts Centre (FAC) is an internationally recognised multi-arts organisation, dedicated to supporting and presenting projects in all forms of artistic practice. FAC's artist in residence program provides opportunities to local, national and international artists who are experimenting and developing their practice. FAC supports its resident artists to execute ideas and engage the public. Artists have the opportunity to exhibit or participate in a public outcome such as a workshop, artist talk or open studio, if desired.

Location and transport Fremantle Arts Centre is a short walk from the centre of Fremantle and the accommodation at The Moores Buildings is located in the heart of Fremantle's historic West End. Both premises have an on-site café and are close to shops & restaurants. The train line that connects Perth and Fremantle and Fremantle's Bus Station are within walking distance. A bicycle can be borrowed from FAC on request.

Accommodation provided? Yes – a residential apartment is provided at The Moores Building, a three-level heritage sandstone dwelling located in Fremantle's historic West End. You can walk from The Moores to FAC in approx. 15 minutes. The apartment features a private bathroom, kitchen and separate living/working area. The Moores Building is also home to a public gallery and café.
Fees As this is a reciprocal residency, the successful resident receives in-kind accommodation, studio and support.
Partners/ families permitted? Yes. Please note that families, partners and/or children are the responsibility of the artist. Small children will need to be supervised at all times.
