Reciprocal Exchanges
Reciprocal exchanges are two way exchanges between hosts in Australia and partner organisations in Korea, Taiwan and Japan. Participants are encouraged to engage with their fellow reciprocal resident during each residency period. Applicants must be from the Australian state/territory specified below.
Japan – ACT: Canberra Glassworks and Toyama Glass Studio exchange
This reciprocal residency is a craft exchange between leading glass institutions Canberra Glassworks and Toyama Glass Studio. The Australian applicant must be from ACT.
Japan – VIC: Tokyo Wonder Site and RMIT iAIR Creative Industry exchange
A new opportunity for Victorian arts professionals intersecting with the Creative Industries such as Architecture, Gaming and Design. Australian applicants must be from VIC.
Taipei – Fremantle: Dept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation, and the Fremantle Arts Centre
One of our longest running reciprocal residencies, this exchange has created longstanding links between Taiwan and Western Australia. Australian applicants must be from WA
Indonesia – Australia: Komunitas Salihara and Varuna Writers House
Tulis (Too-lis) is a two-way Australian-Indonesian writing exchange that will bring an Indonesian writer to Australia to conduct a four-week residency at Varuna Writers House, a two-week placement at WestWords and participation in the Sydney Writers Festival.
Indonesia – Australia: Three-month residency with one of GPS's global collaborators in the region
The Emerging Writer program is a three-month residency with one of GPS's global collaborators. Supported by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation.
Please note that artists from Asia cannot directly apply for this program to Asialink. Artists from Korea and Taiwan and Japan are proposed to Asialink by our international host partners on an annual basis.
Japan – ACT
This reciprocal residency is a craft exchange between leading glass institutions Canberra Glassworks and Toyama Glass Studio. Each resident will undertake a six-week residency at their host organisation.
Australian applicants for this exchange must be from the ACT. Japanese applicants will be selected by Toyama Glass Studio. Applicants for this residency must have a basic level of glass skills, and awareness of working in a hot glass workshop.
Both the Australian and Japanese recipients will be awarded a $6,000 Asialink grant towards their airfare, daily living expenses and materials. In-kind support will be offered by the Asian and Australian host organisation in the form of accommodation, hosting, studio space and exhibition/project costs.

Selection criteria
Quality of work as demonstrated by the application and support material provided, and relevant professional experience;
- Basic glass skills, and awareness of working in a hot glass workshop
- Relevance to the applicant’s future professional goals;
- Relevance of the proposed host and country to applicants aims and objectives;
- Commitment to working in Asia;
- Demonstrated capability and confidence to engage in a meaningful and active way with the host and community in-country; and
- Potential to apply outcomes of the residency to the benefit of Australia
Toyama Glass Studio
Toyama Glass Studio was established by the Toyama City Government in 1994, for the purpose of developing and supporting glass art and craft professionals, for the popularisation and cultivation of glass art and craft, and for the promotion of a glass art and craft industry.
The studio trains young glass artists to be independent professionals who can contribute to the local and global glass art and craft fields. To broaden the base for the culture of and promote the attractiveness of glass to citizens, Toyama Glass Studio organises interactive events and courses. In addition, they hold glass art and craft exhibitions and exchange programs in Japan and overseas to create a new market and network.

Canberra Glassworks
Canberra Glassworks is a dynamic, professional working glassworks providing local, national and international contemporary glass artists with access to state-of-the-art equipment and a unique context to explore, develop and realise new Australian work. It is the only arts institution of its type in Australia, completely dedicated to contemporary glass. It is valued by nationally and internationally renowned artists for its sophisticated equipment and facilities which allow them to work collaboratively and to a large scale. Its annual program includes exhibitions, artist access programs and community engagement programs and it provides contemporary glass for sale.

Taipei – Fremantle
2019 will mark Asialink's tenth year of facilitating a reciprocal residency between Dept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation, and an Australian host organisation, the Fremantle Arts Centre. For 2019 Asialink Arts anticipate for an exchange to occur at different times in the year, to enable the Australian and Taiwanese artist to meet each other in-country and introduce one another to networks, settings and opportunities.
Successful applicants will be awarded a $9,000 Asialink grant towards their airfare, daily living expenses and materials. Up to $3,000 in-kind support will be offered by Dept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation in the form of accommodation, hosting, studio space and exhibition/project costs.
Please note that applicants for this exchange must be from Western Australia.

Dept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation - Taipei
Dept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation plays an important role in the dialogue, networking and presentation of artwork from Taiwan to the international art world. It comprises two sites; Taipei Artist Village (TAV) and Treasure Hill Artist Village (THAV). Located in the centre of Taipei, TAV has 13 residential apartments and studios for international artists and a mission to promote contemporary and avant-garde practices across a range of art forms. THAV is a historic architectural community. The unique location of Treasure Hill, with its narrow alleys and stairways traversing the hillside, gives THAV a European rural village feel. Applicants can apply for either TAV or THAV, and should specify this on their application form. The artist will participate in the organisation's Open Studio Program.

Fremantle Arts Centre - Western Australia
Fremantle Arts Centre (FAC) is an internationally recognised multi-arts organisation, dedicated to supporting and presenting projects in all forms of artistic practice. FAC's artist in residence program provides opportunities to local, national and international artists who are experimenting and developing their practice. FAC supports its resident artists to execute ideas and engage the public. Artists have the opportunity to exhibit or participate in a public outcome such as a workshop, artist talk or open studio, if desired.

A bicycle can be borrowed from FAC on request. |

Accommodation provided? | Yes – a residential apartment is provided at The Moores Building, a three-level heritage sandstone dwelling located in Fremantle's historic West End. You can walk from The Moores to FAC in approx. 15 minutes. The apartment features a private bathroom, kitchen and separate living/working area. The Moores Building is also home to a public gallery and café. |
