Assessing and Strengthening Australia-Asia Engagement: What matters?
What needs to be done?
Speakers | Program | Meet the 2010 Leaders
The 2010 Asialink Leaders retreat took place in Canberra from 19-23 September. The Asialink Leaders retreat is a major component of the Asialink Leaders program, and brings together 40+ senior leaders from across all sectors.
Across four days Australia’s relations with its closest trading partners – China, Japan and ASEAN – were put under the microscope. We closely examined the nature of Australia’s engagement from economic, security and diplomatic perspectives.
The 2010 Asialink Leaders were fortunate to hear from leading Asia specialists and diplomats, and to discuss issues with Ambassadors from China, Japan and the ASEAN-10 nations. Current debates around the shifting geopolitical balance in the Asia region were at the forefront of deliberations, as well as the environmental and socio-demographic implications of rapid economic growth in the region.
Asialink Leaders, from a wide range of sectors, came away inspired by the potential for deeper, better-informed Australia-Asia engagement. In the words of one participant: ‘I have returned from Canberra feeling even more enthusiastic and excited about our engagement in Asia.’
