  • Application requirements

    1. Proposal (500 words max.)

    • Response is embedded within the application form and does not require a separate attachment
    • Must address the Selection Criteria set out in the Application Process guidelines on Asialink's website

  • File formats

    Guidelines

All uploads on SmartyGrants must not exceed 25MB each. We recommend keeping files to a maximum of 5MB - the larger the file, the longer the upload time.

Applicants should prepare, test and attach support material well in advance of the application due date. Asialink and SmartyGrants are unable to help with any technical difficulties that you may experience with uploading support materials after the application deadline.

    Collated PDF Files

All uploads should be in Collated PDF format. This means one PDF per attachment that can be multiple pages (e.g. 6 images in 1x6-page PDF).

This ensures the Asialink Selection Committee can access and review your support material in the fastest and easiest way possible.

You will need Adobe Acrobat on your computer to do this.

    Download Adobe Acrobat:

    Download Adobe Acrobat (MAC)
    Download Adobe Acrobat (PC)

    Convert images to PDF format:
    1. Save your images in JPEG format first
    2. Save your JPEG's in PDF format:

    MAC:
    1. Open the image in 'Preview'
    2. Go to 'File' and select 'Save As'
    3. Select 'Format' to 'PDF' and click 'Save'

    PC:
    1. You can use an online service or a PDF Writer.

Convert Word documents to PDF format:
    MAC and PC

Collate multiple PDF files into one single PDF:
    MAC and PC

  • Practice-specific support material

Applicants can choose to submit one OR a combination of two or all the following support material categories:

    1. Images
    2. URL to Video/Audio
    3. Writing Sample/s

All applicants must choose which support material categories best demonstrate their creative practice and proposal.

Asialink recommends a 'less is more' approach and appreciates succinct and carefully considered applications. For example, an arts manager may choose to include images of an exhibition they have curated, accompanied by an essay about the same exhibition.

All support material must be accompanied by a Captions List which will enable Asialink to identify and get a brief description of each of your separate support materials.

A detailed explanation of each support material category follows:

    1. Images

Six (6) images in collated PDF format, one image per page

    2. URL to Video/Audio

    • One (1) URL to online video/audio support material
    • Video/Audio material can comprise one individual sample or collated samples
    • Video/Audio material must be no longer than 3 minutes duration
    • URL can link to material on applicant's website; YouTube; Vimeo, etc. but this should meet the above requirements

    3. Writing Sample/s

    • Maximum 1,500 words of one individual piece or extract; or a variety of writing samples saved in collated PDF format
    • Font size must be 12p, with 1.5 line spacing
    • Samples can include a combination of published short stories; excerpts from published work; work in progress; an act from a play or script; published poems; a selection of published illustration work; or short essay/s.
  • Captions list

    Requirements for captions list

    • The captions list must be in collated PDF format
    • It must not exceed one (1) page per support material category above. I.e. If submitting all 3 support material categories of 'Images', 'URL to Video/Audio' and 'Writing Sample/s', the caption list will be a maximum of three (3) pages.
    • The order of the caption list should correspond with the order of your support material. You might like to use a numbering system to achieve this.
    • All captions should include a couple of sentences explaining what the support material is, correct titles, dates, dimensions, media of your work/s or sample/s, and publication information where relevant
