Tim Mayfield comes to AEF from the Australian Republic Movement (ARM) where he was National Director. In this role, Tim rapidly grew the ARM and rejuvenated the campaign for an Australian head of state.

Prior to that Tim worked as an advisor to former Foreign Minister and current Chancellor of the Australian National University, Professor the Hon Gareth Evans AC QC. He has also previously worked at the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade.

Tim believes that intercultural competence is an essential skill for the students of today and will only grow in importance as we prepare new generations of young people for the jobs of the future. He is passionate about the critical role that education has to play in developing a globally ready and Asia capable Australia. Success in this regard is essential not only to ensuring Australia's ongoing global competitiveness, but as a response to the increasing uncertainty we are witnessing at home and abroad about the benefits of a globalised and interconnected world.

Tim speaks five languages and has postgraduate qualifications in Middle Eastern Studies. In his spare time he enjoys playing outside with his two boys and keeping fit.
